The ASD:Suite User Group page

Welcome to the ASD:Suite User Group page, dedicated to everyone who uses Verum’s ASD:Suite and for those who have an interest in the ASD technology. Users come together to discuss various topics, share valuable experiences and get questions answered, while having fun at the same time.

Featuring Topics

On these pages you will find the presentations and supporting materials from the latest meeting.

During this special edition of the ASD User Group Event, a number of design cases was presented. These design cases were the result of our latest ASD:Suite design contest which was held in the summer of 2011.

Check out this overview or this video presenting the winners of the ASD:Suite contest and their applications.

The design cases showed the entire process of building an application using the ASD:Suite, from idea to the built app. The presentations covered everything, starting from scratch and ending in a live demo. This included the architecture, the decomposition into components, the use of ASD, integration with the hand-written code, building the application, and more. They provided valuable information on the various use cases and design scenarios that ASD can be applied to, that can be related to the day-to-day design challenges that users face.

Important notice:
The provided materials below are illustrative examples from our ASD contest. The applications (including the presentation, documentation, source code and ASD models) are distributed ‘as is’, they do not necessarily represent the view of Verum about suitable ASD designs and use of the ASD:Suite.

spASDinvaders
By Hans Kuppens

spASDinvaders Game

SpASDinvaders is an illustrative demonstration of the possibilities that the ASD:Suite offers. SpASDinvaders is inspired by the ancient computer game “Space Invaders”, an arcade game from 1978. The idea is to use a lasergun to destroy a squadron of aliens, that is moving and firing at you. The fewer aliens there are left, the faster they are moving. Every now and then a spacecraft flies by, for an extra score when it is destroyed. When all aliens are destroyed the player has won.

On Board Unit
By Martin Keesen

On Board Unit Simulation

The On Board Unit is a system that collects driving information, and is intended for insurance companies to apply a bonus system for drivers that drive safely (i.e. who obey traffic rules and who adapt their driving behaviour to the actual road/weather conditions). To make the On Board Unit attractive to the drivers, additional functionality can be added. For instance traffic information about road conditions ahead, or alerting emergency services in case of an accident. The various features of this On Board Unit are presented in a simulation environment.

Tweet Re-tweet app
By Willie Aarnink

Tweet Re-Tweet applicationThis application is using a Twitter account, and it listens for tweets that contain a specific request (for instance ‘Fibonacci(14)?’). From such a tweet, it creates a task and distributes it over the cores in the system. The task processes the request and calculates the answer. When the task has finished, it sends a tweet containing the answer, e.g. 'Fibonacci(14) = 377'.

I2C protocol implementation for home automation
By Terry Dennemans

I2C protocolTo control devices remotely (for home automation), a PCB is being developed based on an EM500 from Tibbo. This EM500 device has an Ethernet port and 8 I/O lines. To be able to control more than 8 I/O lines the I2C protocol is being used, so two I/O lines are used to control I2C devices. For this environment a simulator is made to simulate the communication between the EM500 and devices attached to the controller.
